Self-efficacy is an important issue but received little attention in the field of librarianship. What is it? It is an affective domain, thus an innate feeling but which can give direction to a person’s behaviour, enthusiasm and motivation to achieve a goal. It can be closely linked to one’s information behaviour in the sense that a person’s self-efficacy belief will either encourage or discourage one to either continue or discontinue a search for information. The role of the Librarian in all this is to seek means and ways to increase or maintain the level of self-efficacy of its users and thus help optimum use of materials.
